In a battle of wits
We all take some hits.
The question is, What can you deal?
If you're not too selective
Using naught but invective,
Your fate as a loser you seal.
Written in sympathy to those who battled this week in the pages of the Salt Lake papers over a letter to the editor I wrote. See Sheriff's Crony and Cronyism Alive & Well.
WOW!! Way to stick your neck out there. I guess one's willingness to serve a community is in direct proportion to the thickness of one's skin. btw, if someone contributes to your campaign are you automatically aligned with them? If they, by their own free will and choice, donate, are you somehow obligated to do their bidding?
ReplyDeleteYou are not automatically aligned with campaign contributors. Many contribute as a gesture against an opponent (anyone is better than the incumbent, for example), rather than as an endorsement of the challenger. No obligation is overtly required unless The Mob is the donor, I guess ;-)
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, money will usually come from those who think similarly to you on issues. If you do not vote later in accordance with your contributors' wishes on the issues they care about, say goodbye to future donations from that source.
So I guess alignment and influence are dependent in large measure on how much you rely on the donations and how bad you want to be re-elected. I don't think Dad will be too concerned about re-election. City Council meetings are generally so boring, Dad will likely be glad to be rid of them after one term (assuming he wins today).
